60-70 hours/month

Remote position/flexible hours

Starting Pay: $22 hourly

Desirable traits/skills

–Excellent writing and copyediting skills

–Experience with writing or editing for newspaper or magazine

–Proficient in Microsoft Word

–Knowledge of Chicago or AP Style

–Excellent time-management skills

–Local parent, a plus

–Acquire and edit reprint articles and book excerpts

–Execute and write-up an occasional interview

–Write heads and decks for both magazine and website versions of articles

–Write web descriptions of event blurbs and articles

–Write cover lines

–Write TOC copy

–Fact-check community calendars

–Proof magazines

While there is no specific degree required to become a features editor, a background in journalism, communications, or English can be advantageous.
