Job Summary

The Electrician, Lead plans, performs, and oversees electrical assignments involving repair, maintenance, troubleshooting and installations of electrical equipment. The Electrician, Lead also performs the duties of the Supervisor in their absence.

Minimum Qualifications

  • High School or equivalent required
  • Six (6) years of related and progressively more responsible electrical maintenance and installation experience
  • Three years of hands-on medium voltage experience
  • Requires valid US driver’s license
  • Must provide basic hand tools

Applicants must meet stated minimum education and experience requirements.

Preferred Qualifications

  • One year of related trades training
  • CDL-CLASS B License
  • Use of personal vehicle required to transport self, tools, and small parts 

Minimum Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Must have a high regard for safety of self, others, and property.
  • Ability to train, lead and direct staff on a daily basis.
  • Ability to process information and make correct decisions in emergency situations.
  • Must have in-depth knowledge of electrical maintenance and installation.
  • Working knowledge of NEC and NFPA-70E requirements.
  • Must be proficient in wiring connections such as delta Y, ungrounded delta and open delta.
  • Must be proficient in use of all wire types and installation methods (MC, RX, BX, EMT, PVC, rigid pipe, wiremold, seal-tight & Greenfield).
  • Must be proficient in circuitry (receptacles, single pole switches, 3-way, 4-way and double pole).
  • Ability to diagnose, repair or replace damaged or broken wires or cables associated with malfunctioning electrical apparatus such as transformers, motors and motor controllers, lighting circuits and fixtures, switch gear and transfer switches.
  • Must have in-depth knowledge in motor control wiring (start, stop, overload, manual, auto & jog).
  • Must be able to read electrical schematics and use blueprints to wire, install and troubleshoot electrical equipment and controls. Demonstrated competency in high-voltage troubleshooting, installation, and maintenance.
  • Ability to use hand tools and power tools. Requires ability to work from ladders, scaffolding and personnel lifts/bucket trucks.
  • Ability to read, write and perform arithmetic functions.
  • Requires good written and verbal communication skills
  • Requires excellent customer service skills.
  • Requires basic computer skills including Microsoft and job specific software.

Shift

Business Hours with weekends or evenings occasionally required

Travel

Local travel between campus locations only

Driving

Driving a personal vehicle for non-passenger use

Starting Salary/Rate

Expected hiring range: $35.00 - $42.34
