Used Car Reconditioning Technician

POSITION SUMMARY: Responsible for renovating used vehicles for resale in accordance with the dealership's quality standards, time and cost limitations.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
1. Records discrepancies for each vehicle delivered. Inspects vehicles for all interior and exterior defects including: dents, scratches,  upholstery, and poor mechanical operation.
2. Replaces  missing  or defective  small parts.
3. Starts engine and drives vehicles to test steering, brake, transmission and engine operation.
4. Activates power equipment such as electric windows, horn, lights, and directional signals to ensure specified operating standards.
5. Injects grease into units, such as springs, universal joints, and steering knuckles, using hand or compressed­ air powered grease gun.
6. Inspects fluid levels of steering gear, power steering reservoir, transmission, differential, rear axle housings, and shackles.
7. Lubricates moving parts with specified lubricants.

ESSENTIAL JOB REQUIREMENTS:
1. Clearly communicates verbally in person and by telephone with management, co-workers and customers regarding the service requirements of the vehicle.
2. English reading and math skills sufficient to read all technical related documents, Material Safety Data Sheets, insurance  and manufacturer's  information  (approximately  the  10th grade  level).
3. Consistent, regular and timely, daily or as scheduled attendance.
4. Legibly completes required forms, documents and reports as needed.
5. Accurately compares, reads and records identified numbers up to "18" alphanumeric series (i.e. Vehicle Identification  Numbers,  part numbers).
6. Works extended hours (potentially 10 hour days), spur of the moment overtime AND consecutive work days on a regular and irregular basis.
7. Extensive (up to 8 consecutive hours) standing and walking (up to 4 miles daily) on cement, usual parking lot surfaces, tile, lino and other interior and exterior flooring surfaces.
8. Repeated, regular and extended sliding, twisting, bending, pulling, pushing, stooping, stretching and reaching.
9. Repeated and regular getting in and out of different sized vehicles.
10. Repeated lifting, leveraging and carrying of up to 50 pounds for both short and longer distances and over a variety of walking surfaces.
11. Uses all equipment safely and with a high level of expertise.
12. Mentally recall, track and accurately recount work in progress.
13. Accurately  uses  and records pertinent  repair information.
14. Extensive out-of-doors work during daytime and nighttime hours in a variety of weather conditions and temperatures.
15. Maintaining a cooperative and courteous manner with customers and co-workers.
16. Valid driver's license and insurability by employee's carrier.
17. Possess and provide  all tools sufficient to accomplish the repair jobs assigned.
