Job Summary | The Department of Electrical, Computer, and Systems Engineering (ECSE) at RENSSELAER POLYTECHNIC INSTITUTE in Troy, NY invites applications for multiple tenured/tenure-track faculty positions at the Assistant and Associate Professor levels. The ECSE department is in a period of multi-year growth. We seek individuals with demonstrated potential for excellence in research and teaching, combining innovative methods and compelling applications. We welcome candidates with research interests in semiconductor technology, next-generation computing including quantum computing, networking and security, energy and power systems, and robotics and artificial intelligence. Information Technology Services (ITS) at the University at Albany seeks applicants for an Infrastructure Automation Engineer to support the academic, research, and business needs of this vibrant institution. The successful candidate has the technical knowledge and intellectual curiosity to build complex environments for a wide variety of disciplines and departments. They have keen analytical skills and are driven to solve problems and acquire new knowledge to inform and build an environment commensurate with the needs of a public research university.
As part of a group of IT professionals, the Infrastructure Automation Engineer plays a key role in design, development, implementation, and maintenance of application and infrastructure systems to provide secure and robust solutions. They are adept at working in physical and virtual environments, and on-premises and cloud-based applications.
The Infrastructure Automation Engineer collaborates across ITS, providing input and expertise to a range of services.
Primary Responsibilities:
Provide day-to-day operational ownership for assigned AI/ML platforms including patching, upgrading, configuration management, system backups, continuous monitoring, and performance management.
- Design and implement automated solutions for hardware and software infrastructure.
- Automate the deployment, scaling, and monitoring of applications and services, and administer automated workflow tools, middleware application servers (i.e., Oracle Weblogic, IBM WebSphere), and server visualization technologies (i.e., VMware, Red Hat Virtualization, or Oracle VM).
- Create and maintain infrastructure as code (IaC) scripts using tools such as Terraform, Ansible, or Puppet.
- Collaborate with software development and operations teams to implement continuous integration and continuous delivery (CI/CD) pipelines.
- Manage and maintain virtual and cloud-based infrastructure, including servers, storage systems, and networking equipment.
- Monitor and optimize system performance and availability.
- Maintain security posture in accordance with industry best practice and ITS policies and procedures. Implement and maintain security controls to ensure the confidentiality, integrity, and availability of data and systems.
- Participate in incident response and disaster recovery planning and testing.
- Evaluate and recommend new technologies and tools to improve the efficiency and reliability of our infrastructure.
- Manage host environments to ensure proper tuning and sufficient capacity (including web servers, database servers, VMWare, Cisco, Citrix, SAN, directories, and blades).
- Engage in the design and build of solutions that align with architectural norms, industry best practices, ITS standards, and meet project and operational requirements. Contribute to the development of architectural blueprints, templates, tools, systems standards, technical roadmaps, and operational procedures.
- Plan, design, build, implement, and support a growing array of cloud automation tools and services.
- Maintain subject matter expertise by staying current with industry trends and following a professional development plan.

- Effectively and proactively communicate with peers, researchers, and management.
- Be available to provide scheduled support and consultation outside normal business hours, including occasional evenings, holidays, or weekends, within reasonable professional obligation and expectation.

Minimum Qualifications:
- A bachelor's degree from a college or university accredited by a U.S. Department of Education (DOE) or internationally recognized accrediting organization.
- Proficiency in one or more programming languages such as Python, Ruby, or JavaScript.
- Proven design, planning, and implementation experience with infrastructure components including Linux servers, storage, and network.

Information Technology Services (ITS) at the University at Albany seeks applicants for a Desktop and Mobile Computing Specialist. The Specialist plays a critical role in supporting all University desktop and mobile computing endpoints (Windows, macOS, iOS, and Linux) with expertise in Apple operating systems. The successful candidate has the knowledge and skills to provide guidance and oversight for the enterprise management of university devices, with a particular focus on macOS and iOS devices. This is a unique opportunity for someone looking to grow their skills in a diverse, multidisciplinary environment in one of four University Centers in the State University of New York (SUNY) system.
The Specialist works on service and project teams in support of the University's research, teaching and learning, information security, and infrastructure services. They develop and rely on tools and processes for the enterprise management of all University workstations and devices, including the deployment of operating systems, applications, and patches, secure and reliable operations, and maintaining an accurate device inventory. As the ITS subject matter expert for Apple operating systems, they recommend standards, guidelines, and procedures to enhance and improve service delivery for the management of macOS and iOS devices on behalf of the campus community. ITS may further invest in this position by supporting professional development activities, such as earning certifications, to advance expertise in relevant areas.
Primary Responsibilities:
Specialist in Apple Operating Systems (macOS, iOS) and Endpoints
- Serve as ITS' subject matter expert in Apple operating systems and devices.
- Implement, operate, and maintain Apple OS and software distribution using appropriate enterprise management tools (i.e., Jamf).
- Employ best practices to automate the configuration and management of Apple endpoints and support MacOS across a range of versions.
- Develop and maintain tools and procedures to include and update all University-owned Apple devices in the asset inventory.
- Work with distributed IT units to promulgate and promote ITS' standardized enterprise tools, practices, and procedures for the management of Apple devices.
General Desktop and Mobile Computing Support
- Contribute to the development, testing, documentation, and operationalization of workstation, mobile device, printer, and software deployment processes, procedures, and scripts.
- Proactively test new operating system versions and features, new device drivers, and new application versions and integrate changes into deployment processes to maintain currency.
- Use enterprise management tools and develop scripts to remotely configure, support, and maintain all University desktops, mobile devices, and printers.
- Work within service teams to resolve service desk incidents and service requests in accordance with ITS' service management and project management processes and workflows.
- Serve as a point of escalation for Field Support Specialists; deploying to the field, as needed.
