Reporting to the Senior Associate Director of Student Activities & Leadership and Director of Sullivan Student Center, the Interim Assistant Director provides leadership in the administration and supervision of key student organizations, as well as programming initiatives across campus to promote academic excellence, educational and developmental programming, community service, and responsible social events. The Assistant Director assists with major campus programming, including Association for Campus Entertainment (ACE) Programming, Club Sports, the annual Spring Concert, and large-scale student organization programming. This is an interim, temporary, position for the Spring, 2025, semester. Salary is $27.00/hour.

Primary Duties/Responsibilities

• Functions as a core team member for the Campus Activities & Residential Engagement team and is present to assist the Senior Associate Director, Specialist, and the other Assistant Director at major spring semester departmental events including Titus & Rail Jam Weekend, Senior Week, and other major campus events.
• Plan and implement major campus programming and traditions, including the coordination of key elements of the annual spring concert.
• Provide leadership and administrative support to ACE (campus programming board) and Java (student-run music venue), with emphasis on leadership development, program implementation, and mentorship.
• Oversee all club sports and collaborate with Athletics, ensuring access to fields, equipment, and support. Advise club teams on traveling for competitions, paying for vendors, and assist in troubleshooting other issues that may arise.
• Coordinate the training program for special events and alcohol approved events hosted by student clubs and organizations.
• Assist with the hiring process for Campus Activities & Residential Engagement student leader positions, including facilitation of candidate group process activities and interviews.
• In collaboration with the Associate Dean and/or Senior Associate Director, advise student clubs or organizations as needed on operational issues, fiscal management, and risk management and liability.
• Understand and communicate purchasing and event planning policies to student clubs and organizations when they plan for guest speakers, programs, and entertainment.
• Assist with ongoing informal and formal leadership and personal development to student leaders and student organizations.

Minimum Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree required.
• Applied understanding of campus programming and how it can enhance the student experience and personal development & growth.
• Demonstrated intercultural competence, and a continuing commitment to advance equity, inclusion, and social justice practices in support of a diverse community.
• Excellent written and oral communication skills.
• Willingness to work some evening and weekend hours as student programming needs and major events require.

Preferred Qualifications

• Master’s degree in education, higher education administration or counseling, psychology, or related field.
• 1-3 years of experience in student life, undergraduate student leader or graduate assistant experience.
• Prior experience working with orientation and/or student activities at the graduate or undergraduate level.
• Involved regionally or nationally in professional associations within higher education.
• Previous experience at a rural and/or liberal arts focused institution.
