Job Title:                                 Working Water Supervisor

Rate of Pay:                             $65,000 - $75,000/annually, plus benefits

Location of Position:               The Village of Horseheads

Hours of Work:                        7:00am-3:30pm Monday thru Friday (overtime as needed)

Closing Date:                           October 19, 2024       

This position involves manual work of ordinary difficulty involving responsibility for acting as work leader. A Working Water Supervisor will also serve as a “straw boss” and as such actively participates in work projects being completed.

Qualifications:

1. Possession of a Class B Commercial Driver’s License at time of appointment and must maintain license and an insurable standard throughout employment; AND must possess or obtain a New York State Class IIA and IIB Water Operator’s License within one year of appointment.
2. Graduation from high school or possession of a high school equivalency diploma and
   1. One year of experience in municipal water system operations and maintenance; or
   2. Six (6) months of supervisor experience in area defined in section (a) above; or
   3. One (1) year (30 credits) of college coursework in a construction or maintenance field; or
   4. An equivalent combination of training or experience

Typical Work Activities:

Oversees and schedules work activities related to the Village’s portable water system including but not limited to:

• Maintenance of all well and treatment facilities.
• Maintenance and operation of the filter plant.
• Repair and maintenance of the water distribution system.
• Repair and maintenance of water meters.
• Repair and maintenance of all process control equipment.
• Water sampling as required by the Health Department.
• Calibration of testing equipment.
• Check sampling of all treatment processes.
• Maintains, oversees, supervises, and performs repairs on water department facilities and equipment.
• Investigate complaints related to Village water, responds to inquiries and requests from the public.

Additional duties include but are not limited to helping public works department when needed:

• Snow plowing Village streets and property.
• Work activities related to street paving and drainage.
• Other duties as assigned by the department head.

The working water supervisor shall be available for after hour water emergencies or snow plowing on a carryover or on-call basis.
