Mechanical Engineer

Nelson Associates Architectural Engineering, a full service architectural and engineering firm, is seeking to hire a mechanical engineer.  This is a great opportunity for an energetic, positive, self-motivated person to join a well-established design firm to work in a potential leadership role.  This individual will be an integral part of the architectural and engineering design group, working alongside engineers, architects, and project managers in performing technical design and preparing specifications. 

Duties and Responsibilities:
• Full time position.
• Design and develop HVAC, plumbing, and fire protection systems for commercial, institutional, education, health care, multi-family housing, and other related type projects.
• Produce contract documents, including plans and specifications.
• Perform system sizing calculations.
• Perform heating/cooling calculations.
• Prepare construction and design cost estimates.
• Work with multi-discipline project teams to coordinate mechanical, electrical, plumbing, fire protection, and fire alarm with architectural documents.
• Prepare technical reports.
• Perform review of calculations, drawings, and specifications prepared by technical staff.
• Mentor and train entry-level electrical engineers/designers.

Skills and Qualifications:
• BS in Mechanical Engineering or Mechanical Technology.
• (5) to (20) years experience working with electrical systems.
• Skilled in AutoCAD (Revit a plus).
• Working knowledge of standard construction practice and Building Code of NYS, NFPA, ADA, etc.
• Proficiency in the design of mechanical systems for various building types.
• Strong knowledge of HVAC systems.
• Ability to read and understand P&IDs, control strategies, and the development of control schematics based upon these documents.
• Ability to work with multi-discipline project teams.
• Ability to make basic technical decisions regarding analysis and detailing.
• Ability to work independently to effectively complete routine tasks.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills that are well organized.

Salary $65,000 to $105,000 commensurate with experience.  Eligibility for bonuses and profit sharing.
